In Texas the Crime Records Service of the DPS secures and files records of pertinent information of people arrested, charged, or convicted of a criminal act regardless of whether the conviction was probated. Usage of such data files is also permitted in accordance to Texas statute. The Department of Public Safety CCH (Computerized Criminal History) and Criminal Justice Corrections Tracking System comprise the Texas Criminal Justice Information System. Overall it must control, but not limited to, all details regarding arrests for felonies or misdemeanors not merely punishable by fine. Texas Police Records encompassing arrests filed by sheriffs’ offices and police departments including prosecutions and dispositions from courts are compiled and reported by local criminal justice units as mandated by the Code of Criminal Procedure, to the Dept. of Public Safety CCH.
